The problem

Are your rear lights a problem?
A rear light is out, but changing the bulb hasn't helped?
Or you're getting a warning light saying there's a bad bulb?
Maybe the problem is intermittent, maybe not.

The likely cause

Most likely, there's a problem where the wiring harness plugs into the tail light bulb holder unit.
These units seem to be a little under-rated and the terminals are prone to burning.
They are also prone to water ingress, causing corrosion.
Pull the connector plug off the bulb holder assembly and check whether the terminals in the holder are burnt or corroded like this example from a 5-pin version.

The solution

You may be able to clean up any burns or corrosion on the bulb holder terminals, but also check the wiring harness plug.
Any corrosion or burning of the plug means this must be replaced.
You can buy a new connector with a short length of wiring here.
It will replace left or right side.
Before placing your order, please check that the connector on your vehicle matches that shown, as not all vehicle versions are fitted with this holder and connector.
The wiring colours will be different to the original, so cut the harness wires one at a time, and connect up to the new loom as you go along.
We recommend you solder the wires together for a proper connection, but crimping is an alternative method.
